Downie, known around the studio as “The Yank”, began tattooing 32 years ago with the famous Col. Todd in Long Beach, California, then opened up his own shop in San Diego. He worked there until he came to Sydney for a holiday in 1993 and made a guest appearance tattooing in Sleevemasters.

After returning to the States, Dave came back for a few months in 1996 until the lure of Australia became all too much for him the following year, returning to our shores for good. He has since married and begun to raise a family Down Under.

Dave’s experience shows in his excellent tattoo work. He is comfortable with all styles of tattooing and produces some of the neatest and most precise work in the country, for which he has quickly earned a reputation, numerous awards and a large regular clientele. Dave is a P.T.A.A. member and takes his tattooing seriously. He treats every job as if he was tattooing himself.

Dave Downie has made Sleevemasters his home and is a huge asset to the shop.
